This project takes my own face as the subject and reinterprets it through the lens of Tang Dynasty aesthetics. Inspired by my deep appreciation for ancient Chinese history and culture, I explored how traditional makeup and symbolism could be translated into a contemporary sculptural form. The design draws on the iconic Tang-era facial style—distinguished by bold red tones and balanced geometric composition—to express both personal identity and cultural memory.

The work is handcrafted using a combination of Red Sandalwood, Black Walnut, Violet Shiso Wood, Huangyang Wood, and Golden Sandalwood. Each wood was carefully selected for its distinct texture and hue, allowing natural color contrast to emphasize depth and layering. The red and black palette symbolizes vitality and elegance, echoing the refined yet powerful character of Tang beauty.
Measuring 25cm × 8cm, the sculpture was created through a series of carving, sanding, and polishing processes that highlight both craftsmanship and emotion. The tactile transitions between the woods invite viewers to observe how material, form, and history interact in harmony.

Ultimately, Tang Face serves not only as a personal self-portrait but also as a cross-temporal dialogue between ancient Chinese artistry and modern design thinking—celebrating the beauty of heritage through material innovation and emotional expression.
